Paradox vs. Krill
Due to the popularity of krill oil supplements, we are often asked why Paradox does not use krill oil. Here are several facts you need to know about krill:
1. Krill oil is NOT sustainable
KRILL IS EATEN BY FISH AND OTHER MARINE LIFE . IF YOU HOOVER UP ALL THE KRILL YOU WILL REMOVE FROM THE OCEANS THE INITIAL LINK IN THE FOOD CHAIN FOR FISH AND OTHER WILDLIFE
THE FACT IS THAT THE MAJORITY OF KRILL HOOVERED UP FROM THE OCEANS IS USED TO MAKE FEED FOR ANIMALS INCLUDING FARM FED FISH
Several key studies in the past year have the scientific community worried about the fate of krill populations and the potential impact on the global food chain. A study published in March 2011 raises serious concerns over the rapidly declining krill populations. The PEW Environment Group has criticized last year’s certification of the krill fishery by the Marine Stewardship Council, says Pew Environment Group. Furthermore, due to its geographic location (Antarctic) the krill fishery has one of the highest carbon footprints of any fishery in the world.
2. Krill is NOT more potent than fish oil
SOME KRILL OIL IS ABSORBED QUICKER THAN ORNARY FISH OIL ESPECIALLY THE SYNTHETIC, ETHLY ESTER FORM FOUND IN MOST FISH OILS (PARADOX IS NATURAL) DESPITE THE CLAIM THAT KRILL OILS MOLECULES ARE ALL FOUND AS PHOSPHOLIPIDS, THE FACT IS KRILL CONTAINS ONLY 40% OF ITS OMEGA 3 IN PHOSPHOLIPIDS FORM AND SOME LESS THAN THIS ,THE REST OF THE OILS EPA/DHA IS EXACTLY THE SAME MOLECULAR FORM AS ORDINARY FISH OIL. PARADOX ONLY CONTAINS NATURAL TRIGLYCERIDE MOLECULES PROVEN TO BE BETTER ABSORBED THAN SYNTHETIC ETHYL ESTER MOLECULES IN ORDINARY FISH OIL. IT IS A FACT , POUND FOR POUND KRILL OIL CONTAINS MUCH LESS OMEGA 3 THAN FISH OIL
Whereas krill oil generally provides 7–24% omega-3s (EPA and DHA), and about 0.2% astaxanthin, a reddish carotenoid pigment, fish oil naturally contains about 30% omega-3s (EPA and DHA). Some companies claim krill oil to be 500% better absorbed than omega fish oil. This is far from the truth. The scientific literature seems to indicate that krill oil is about 10% better absorbed due to its phospholipid content. There are very few independent scientific studies to verify the health claims of krill oil as a single entity ONLY 6 STUDIES have been published on Krill oil compared to thousands on omega fish oils.
3. Krill contains the (not so) powerful antioxidant astaxanthin
KRILL OIL SUPPLEMENTS AND PARADOX BOTH CONTAIN NATURAL ANTIOXIDANTS
Krill naturally contain the non-essential carotenoid astaxanthin however its health benefits have been grossly exaggerated. A study in 1997 by A Mortensen and LH Skibsted reported astaxanthin to have less antioxidant capacity than other common carotenoids.
PARADOX WAS FORMULATED WITH 3 YEARS RESEARCH ALONGSIDE THE TOPMOST DEPT OF BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE IN UK , UNIVERSITY OF ULSTER AND IT CONTAINS THE MUCH RESEARCHED POLYPHENOLS. THE MOST POWERFUL FAT SOLUBLE ANTIOXIDANTS KNOWN TO MAN AND WELL RESEARCHED WITH REGARD TO THEIR KNOWN HEALTH BENEFITS WITHIN THE MEDITTERANEAN DIET
It appears the only truth you can be sure of for krill oil is that it is all marketing and as yet not much science.
