MacuShield® Original is a Lutein (10mg), Zeaxanthin (2mg) and Meso-zeaxanthin (10mg) one-a-day, easy to take, food supplement which combines all three macular carotenoids in a formula developed in collaboration with leading eye experts.
Scientific research shows that these three nutrients are found at the back of the eye, at the macula, where they form the macular pigment (yellow colour). Meso-zeaxanthin is particularly concentrated at the centre of this pigment.
Lutein and zeaxanthin can be found in fruits and dark green leafy vegetables and meso-zeaxanthin is present in some species of fish and seafood. The macular carotenoids in MacuShield® Original are obtained from marigolds (Tagetes Erecta), specifically grown for this purpose.

Bulking agent: Sunflower seed oil, capsule shell (gelling agent: bovine gelatin, humectant: glycerol, colour: red iron oxide E172), marigold extract (of which 15% is combined lutein,meso-zeaxanthin, dl-alphatocopherol, zeaxanthin), thickener: beeswax yellow, riboflavin.

Yes – MacuShield Original+ does not contain any sucrose (sugar).
I smoke/used to smoke, can I take MacuShield™?
Yes, as none of the MacuShield range contains beta-carotene. But if you’re concerned about suitability, please do talk to your healthcare professional.
How do you source the macular carotenoids for MacuShield™?
We get all three carotenoids for our formulas from the Mexican marigold flower (its Latin name is Tagetes erecta). These are grown and sourced specifically for MacuShield.
Can I get macular carotenoids in my diet?
You can. The average Western diet contains between 1.3-3mg carotenoids per day. Dark green leafy veg, brightly coloured fruits and vegetables, and fish such as salmon, sardine and trout are good sources.
